• What ages and levels do you teach?
South Florida Conservatory of Music provides learning to students ages 5 and older and to all levels of learning. Some teachers work with older ages but we will place you with the best staff for the student’s age. If you are new to music learning, you are in good hands as we have lots of experience and patience with beginners.
• What age is best to start for certain instruments?
The best way to know is to take the trial lesson and. Some instruments are better for older learner’s body frames, lung capacity and finger strength. Please click here to see more details about which instruments are best for various ages.
• What will I learn in my lessons?
Our teachers make it a priority to get to know you on a personal level and to become familiar with your individual musical needs and goals. At SFLCM, we seek teachers that personally invest in our students. Once enrolled, each student has a plan customized for them, based on music learning principles but adapted to the student. Goals for the future are good and we can help you achieve them – building the best musician in you.
• What styles do you help your students learn?
We teach all styles of music from classical to blues, rock, pop, jazz, country, and others depending on the instrument. In most cases beginners can start into a style within the first few lessons.
• What credentials and experience are expected of your teaching staff?
SFLCM only invites to Our Team, those professional teachers with collegiate-level training, a minimum of 5 years teaching private lessons and the most important elements, the love of teaching and a warm, friendly personality. All of our teachers have music degrees, years of performance experience and a willing heart to invest in each student.
• How long does it take to learn an instrument?
With regular practice, a basic level of playing can be accomplished in a few months. Most of our students take lessons on a long-term basis because they want to be constantly improving and they find the lessons enjoyable. Growing in music is a longer-term investment, but success can be found in each lesson with our instructors.
• I don’t have any musical background or ability. Can I still help my child practice?
Yes. Our teachers will offer great advice on how to help your child practice. Ask your child throughout the week to play their piece(s) for you. This is a wonderful way for them to not only practice to build confidence, but they feel that the parent is invested. Adult learners too can play for family and friends. Parents can occasionally sit in on the lesson and always should expect updates and guidance from our teachers.
• Do I need an instrument to start?
Yes. A plan to practice at home would be wise from the very beginning, to retain the most from the lesson. Our teachers can make good recommendations for a quality instrument.
